Drug Treatment Philosophy

There have been tremendous advances in the treatment of drug addiction, alcoholism and dual diagnosis over the last decade. In this new era of substance abuse treatment, Lakeview Health Systems has remained on the “cutting edge” of addiction treatment and drug rehab with the development of its dual diagnosis treatment program.

We believe the person dealing with a dual diagnosis should receive the same opportunity to recover as anyone else. They deserve to recover in an addiction treatment program or drug rehab capable of treating their mental health disorder with as much passion as their drug addiction or alcoholism.

Lakeview’s dual diagnosis, alcohol rehab and addiction treatment program believes in treating the “whole person” and not just their presenting symptoms.  In conjunction with addiction or alcoholism, studies have shown that over 60 percent of the men and women entering addiction treatment or drug rehab suffer from a co-occurring mental health condition. This is referred to as “dual diagnosis” or a dual disorder. Some examples may be anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder or post traumatic stress disorder.

The staff at Lakeview believe it is imperative that both substance abuse and mental health issues be addressed while the person is in drug rehab or alcoholism treatment. Far too many recovering people have relapsed after drug rehab or alcohol rehab in an attempt to self medicate their anxiety, depression or mood swings, which may have been a direct result of their untreated dual disorder. It is for this reason we address mental health issues while the person is still in drug rehab and alcoholism treatment.

Lastly, while we firmly embrace the philosophies of 12 Step Self Help Programs (they have proven to provide people with the best opportunity of achieving long term recovery), we also recognize these programs may not be for everyone. With this in mind, your recovery and discharge plan will be designed in a manner which provides you the best opportunity in which to achieve your long term recovery.
